Casements and Sea Faeries - Shabby Chic Vintage Literature Card

The rain here over the weekend was much needed to alleviate the drought but it did cause flash flooding.  The boys and I passed some very VERY swollen waterways and creeks on the way to Church yesterday morning, and it made me very grateful that we live on high ground.

With all this water everywhere, I dug out some ocean-themed papers and started playing around.
This stamp is one of my favorites because it is so different and it invariably reminds me of William Morris.  Naturally, old literature illustrations deserve a vintage writing background, right?

The exuberant bow and flower, together with the twine tangle, really complement the unexpectedness of the stamp graphic and its words.  I've always puzzled over the words but no matter what, they are certainly poetic:  "Magic Casements Opening on the Foam of Perilous Seas in Faerie Lands Forlorn."
I wish I knew the book or poem it comes from, but at any rate it is also nice to imagine.

I apologize for the somber lighting.  The cloud-cover from this storm front is really heavy.

You can't see it very well, but I switched between straight stitch and zig-zag for the edges of the inside matted writing areas. It adds just another bit of texture and interest.  The writing areas are also lightly spritzed with Tattered Angels' Gold glimmer mist so that they look like they've been through some real aging.
