Beachcombing Card - Boy with Sailboat At the Seaside

I'm home with a sick little guy today,
so while he's coloring and resting his voice, and we wait
for his brother to get home from church so we can read all together,
I thought I'd try to catch up on posting some cards that I made before
the unexpected vacation last week!
This particular one was a lot of fun to make,
as I was thinking about beach-combing and the hodge podge of discoveries
to be made in tidal pools and along beach walks.
These treasure-finding expeditions by the sea enchant children and adults alike.
With the stitching, I like to sometimes mix it up between zigzags and straight lines,
or only stitch a part of the design.  This way it doesn't get too boxy or simply look
like an outline--it gets to be part of the layout in a more meaningful way.
You can see here how I used clear Gloss on the ocean and tidal pool
to accentuate the water.
In general I try to never cover the entire surface, as that ruins the interest
and also tends to cause a lot of buckling.
I can almost feel the salt air blowing.
Here are the challenges:
Now I know I haven't used gems.  I wanted to go for a more natural sparkle on this
card with the glass gems and idea of sparkles on the water in summer sun.
Suffer the Children to Come to Me
I've used Twine, image, and a circle tag
Materials Used on this Card:
Cardstock {Kraft, Ripe Avocado - Papertrey Ink}
Patterned papers {Making Memories, K & Company}
Vintage image {The Graphics Fairy}
Glossy Accents {Ranger}
Sentiment and circle frame stamps {Papertrey Ink}
Circle nestabilities tag dies {Spellbinders}
Palmetto Stamp {Stamp Museum - this rubber is 14+ years old}
Distress and pigment inks - for palmetto and background
Shell and coral stickers, wooden spool {The Paper Studio}
Wooden button trim, burlap ribbon, cotton twine, glass gems {stash}
A view of the finished inside:
Stamped onto 220-grit sandpaper for some very interesting texture.
